New York, New York - September 2, 2005. Elegant lighting can transform an ordinary room or building into a "gaze of wonder". This is what is driving Kawahara Design to create unusual and gorgeous architectural lighting designs which illuminate some of the most royal hotels and various types of formal rooms in New York and around the world.
With recent debates over outsourcing work from the U.S. to other nations, Kawahara is taking a different approach to design and manufacturing in the lighting industry. All of their lighting products are manufactured and designed in New York while still competing with Asian markets. With so many products being imported into America today, Kawahara has turned the tables in its segment of the lighting industry. The company exports fabricated lighting products to places like Japan and Singapore, but still maintains a local presence in New York.
"It doesn't have to be designed and manufactured in Asia in order to be competitive in the world market," states Joe Kawahara, VP of Kawahara Design.
While Five Star hotels such as the Ritz-Carlton enjoy brilliant lighting fixtures by Kawahara, others benefit from practical, dependable lighting arrangements, including Disney and many fine restaurants. The Disney sea in Japan contains gigantic metal fixtures that were manufactured just three blocks from Times Square in New York at Kawahara. Over 50 large Asian fusion custom chandeliers are being shipped to new branches of the famous TAO Asian Bistro, a New York restaurant which is opening in the Venitian Hotel and Casino Las Vegas at the end of September 2005. The fresh new (but old) approach to the American way is getting attention worldwide.
More lighting and design manufacturing in America means more jobs for the American people. Kawahara is proving that it can still be done the old fashioned way.
