Normally, mentoring is thought of being for young people who need
guidance by mature adults. Mentoring goes back in time to the days of
apprentices, where an expert metal worker might, for example, take on
a young man as a helper and teach him to become an expert metal
worker. Other apprenticeships taught young people to become chefs,
clerks, merchants and other trade professions.
