BOYNTON BEACH, FL - April 10, 2007 - SpanishNet College and the Deaver
Foundation announced today that they have established a new
cooperation agreement for the year 2007 to offer a number of senior
citizens and those over 55 a special scholarship for a Basic Spanish
language course that can lead to a new line of work while learning
about subjects like Hispanic literature and diverse Hispanic cultures.
SpanishNet College has been very successful during the last few years
providing a variety of courses and special scholarship programs across
the nation to different groups such as educators and health care
providers.
This new online learning program for mature students will enable them
to participate regardless of time and place, and help those who want
to expand their horizon by conversing in basic Spanish, working in a
professional or social bilingual environment, reading poetry and prose
in their original language, and/or visiting Hispanic countries.
When more senior citizens are entering the work force each year,
bilingual people can work in private companies, libraries, hospitals
and schools, helping with basic Spanish interpretation. Valuable
skills to re-enter the work force. At the same time, the subjects of
literature and travel included with the course will provide a larger
world to enjoy, and the opportunity to make new friends.
Students will learn, together with everyday language, about museums
and shopping, about history and nature, and most of all, about people.
Six months of learning enjoyment, broadening horizons while getting to
know other voices, places and cultures. Advanced courses are
available for those who want to continue learning.
A valuable bonus of bilingualism:
Knowing two languages may slow effects of aging on the mind. "A new
study shows that being fluent in two languages may help prevent some
of the effects of aging on brain function."
Being bilingual boosts brain power. "The bilingual brain develops more
densely, giving it an advantage in various abilities and skills,
according to new research."
